Our Archives here at the University of East London aim to to support the learning, teaching and research needs of the University by seeking to identify, collect and preserve original archival collections, in both digital and physical formats, which aim to focus on the history and heritage of the East London communities in which we are based.
This is reflected in our Mission Statement for the Archive which states:
The Archive seeks to identify, collect and preserve original and unique records that document the history of the University, and its academic interests, and to facilitate their accessibility and to make them available for teaching and research use by staff, students, the academic research community and the wider public.
The UEL Library and Learning Service currently holds important archival collections, in both digital and physical formats, in relation to the academic disciplines associated with theatre studies; refugee and forced migration studies; and sports science.
The archives held at UEL currently include:-
- The East London Theatre Archive (ELTA) online digital archive.
- The Refugee Council Archive (located at the UEL Docklands Campus)
- The Hackney Empire Theatre Archive (located at UEL Stratford Campus)
- The British Olympic Association Archive and Library (located at the UEL Docklands Campus).
